How to Use Scrum Board
Getting Started
Welcome to Scrum Board! Let's get you started with your first project board.
What is a Scrum Board?
A Scrum Board is a visual project management tool that helps teams track work as it progresses through different stages. It's based on the Kanban methodology and is perfect for agile development, but can be used for any type of project.
Quick Start Steps
Choose a Template
Start with one of our pre-built templates or create a custom board from scratch.
Create Tasks
Add your work items as tasks with descriptions, assignees, and due dates.
Track Progress
Drag tasks between columns as work progresses and monitor your team's performance.
Available Templates
Software Development
Perfect for development teams with code review and testing phases.
Marketing Campaign
Ideal for marketing teams managing campaigns from ideation to publication.

Task Properties
Priority Levels
Due Dates
Set realistic deadlines to help prioritize work. Overdue tasks are highlighted in reports.
Assignees
Assign tasks to team members to track individual workloads and responsibilities.
Moving Tasks
Drag and Drop
Simply drag tasks between columns to update their status. This is the core interaction of the scrum board - it provides instant visual feedback on your project's progress.
Task Labels
Use labels to categorize tasks by type, component, or any other classification that helps your team. Labels are color-coded and make it easy to filter and identify related work.
Team Collaboration
Sharing Boards
All boards are stored locally in your browser. To share boards with your team:
Export Data
Use the export feature to save your boards as JSON files
Import Data
Team members can import the JSON to get the same boards
Assigning Work
Individual Assignments
Assign each task to a specific team member to track individual workloads and ensure accountability.
Workload Balancing
Use the team performance section in reports to see who has the most tasks and balance workloads accordingly.
Sprint Planning
Create Sprint Board
Set up a new board for your sprint with appropriate columns
Add User Stories
Create tasks for each user story with story points and acceptance criteria
Assign & Estimate
Assign tasks to team members and set story point estimates
Reports & Analytics
Available Reports
Task Overview

Using Reports Effectively
- Review reports weekly to identify bottlenecks and trends
- Use overdue task alerts to prevent deadline slips
- Track story point velocity to improve sprint planning
- Monitor team workload distribution for better balance
Tips & Best Practices
Board Organization
Keep It Simple
Start with 3-5 columns. Add more only when needed. Too many columns can slow down workflow.
Set WIP Limits
Limit work in progress to prevent bottlenecks and improve focus.
Use Clear Names
Column and task names should be immediately understandable to all team members.
Regular Updates
Move tasks frequently to keep the board current and accurate.
Task Management
Write Good Task Titles
Use action verbs and be specific. "Fix login bug" is better than "Login issue".
Break Down Large Tasks
If a task takes more than a few days, consider breaking it into smaller, manageable pieces.
Use Story Points Consistently
Develop a team standard for story point estimation (e.g., 1=1 hour, 2=half day, 5=full day).
Team Workflow
Daily Standup
Use the board during daily meetings to discuss progress and blockers
Sprint Review
Review completed tasks and gather feedback at the end of each sprint
Retrospective
Use analytics to identify improvement opportunities for the next sprint
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Tasks Piling Up in One Column
This indicates a bottleneck. Consider adding resources or breaking down the workflow.
Too Many Overdue Tasks
Review estimation accuracy and consider more realistic deadline setting.
Board Feels Cluttered
Archive completed tasks regularly or create separate boards for different projects.
