For patterned wallpaper, each strip often needs extra length so the pattern lines up. Drop match usually wastes more than straight match.

This is a simple strip-count preview, not a full wall layout. Pattern repeat, trimming, and opening placement can still change real-world waste.
Buying guide
- Plain wallpaper: Set pattern repeat to 0 and use No repeat for the leanest estimate.
- Patterned wallpaper: Enter the repeat from the roll label so each strip is cut long enough to align.
- Room with many windows: You still need full-height strips around openings, so wallpaper is usually bought by strip count, not just area.
- Matching batches: Buy all rolls together when possible so dye lots stay consistent.
Good to know
This calculator gives a practical estimate for standard rectangular rooms. Sloped ceilings, feature walls, murals, and non-standard repeats can push the real roll count higher.
