About Travel Budget Planner

The Travel Budget Planner helps you estimate the full cost of a trip before you book it. Enter what you expect to spend on flights, accommodation, food, activities, local transport, shopping, and anything else, then add a buffer for unexpected costs. The planner shows your total budget, the share each category takes, and the cost per traveler, per day, and per traveler per day so you can compare destinations or trip lengths quickly.

Everything runs in your browser. Your numbers are saved automatically to local storage on this device — no account, no sign-up, and nothing sent to a server. Use Export to back up a trip as a JSON file, and Import to load it later or move it between devices.

How to Use Travel Budget Planner

  1. Name your trip and add the destination so you can recognise it later.
  2. Enter the trip length in days and how many travelers are going.
  3. Pick the currency you want to budget in.
  4. Fill in expected spend for each category. Leave a category blank if it does not apply.
  5. Set a buffer percentage for surprises — 10% is a sensible starting point.
  6. Review the summary panel for total, per-traveler, and per-day costs.
  7. Use Export to download a JSON backup, and Import to restore it on another device.

Tip: build the budget twice — once with your hopes, once with your floor — and compare. The gap between them is what you can negotiate on (cheaper flights, fewer paid activities, a hostel instead of a hotel) without breaking the trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data private?

Yes. Your trip details stay on your device in browser local storage. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing your browser data will remove the saved trip.

How much buffer should I add?

10% works well for short, familiar trips. Bump it to 15–20% for long trips, foreign currencies, or destinations where prices are hard to predict.

Can I plan a multi-currency trip?

The planner uses one currency at a time so totals stay accurate. If you cross currencies, convert each estimate to your chosen budget currency first.

Why are flights and accommodation usually the largest categories?

For most international trips they are fixed and paid in advance, while food and local costs scale with how long you stay. Trimming flights and lodging tends to move the total more than cutting daily spend.

Can I plan budgets for several trips?

Yes — finish one budget, click Export to save it as a JSON file, then Reset to start a new trip. Use Import later to reload any previous budget.

Does the planner include taxes and fees?

Enter the all-in numbers you actually expect to pay. For flights and hotels that means the total at checkout, including taxes and resort fees, not the headline price.
