The Travel Packing Checklist is a simple, browser-based tool that helps you pack without forgetting anything important. It starts you with a sensible default list across six categories — documents, clothing, toiletries, electronics, health, and miscellaneous — so you don't stare at an empty page. Trip-type presets like Beach, City, Mountain, Business, Camping, and Road Trip add the right extras with a single tap.
Your list saves automatically to your browser's local storage. There is no account, no sign-up, and nothing is sent to a server. Use Export to back up your checklist as a JSON file, and Import to bring it back later or share it between devices. How to Use Travel Packing Checklist
- Add your trip name, destination, departure date, and number of travelers so you can recognise the list later.
- Tap one or more trip type chips (Beach, City, Mountain, Business, Camping, Road Trip) to pull in suggested items for that style of travel.
- Look through each category and remove items you don't need with the trash icon.
- Add anything personal in the "Add custom item" field at the bottom of any category — press Enter or tap the + button.
- As you actually pack each item, tick the box. The progress bar shows how much is still left to do.
- Use Export before the trip to back up the list to a JSON file you can re-import next time.
- Use Reset after the trip to clear everything and start fresh, or Uncheck all to reuse the same list for the return journey.
Tip: pack the night before, not the morning of departure. Tick items off as they actually go into the bag — not when you "intend to" pack them. The list is only as honest as your checkboxes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data private?
Yes. Your checklist is stored only in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Clearing your browser data will remove the saved list.
Can I add my own items?
Absolutely. Each category has an "Add custom item" field at the bottom — type the item and press Enter or tap the + button. Custom items behave just like the defaults and can be checked off or removed.
Will the list be cleared after my trip?
Not unless you ask it to. Tap "Uncheck all" to reuse the same items for the return trip, or "Reset" to wipe the list and start fresh. Export first if you want to keep a copy.
Can I keep separate lists for different trips?
Yes. Finish one list, click Export to save it as a JSON file, then Reset and start the next. Use Import any time to reload a saved list.
What if I'm packing for a mixed trip — beach plus city?
Tap multiple trip type chips. Each preset only adds items that aren't already on the list, so you'll get a combined set without duplicates.
Do the suggestions account for carry-on rules?
No — the list is content-only. Always check your airline's carry-on size, weight, and liquids restrictions separately, especially for items like power banks, pocket knives, or large toiletries.
Does this work offline?
Once the page has loaded once, your checklist lives in local storage and survives offline use. If you want to be safe in transit, open the page on the device you'll travel with before you leave Wi-Fi.
