Mouse DPI Tester

Measure your mouse's actual DPI using a physical ruler

How it works

  1. 1. Set the distance you will physically move your mouse (use a ruler).
  2. 2. Press and hold in the drag zone below, move your mouse exactly that distance, then release.
  3. 3. Your DPI is calculated instantly.

For best accuracy, move in a straight horizontal line and use a physical ruler to measure the exact distance.

About Mouse DPI

DPI (Dots Per Inch) measures how many pixels your cursor moves for every inch your physical mouse moves. A 1600 DPI mouse moves the cursor 1600 pixels when moved one inch.

Higher DPI means faster, more sensitive cursor movement. Lower DPI gives more precise, slower control — which is why many professional gamers prefer 400–800 DPI.

Many gaming mice advertise very high DPI values, but software interpolation is often used above a certain threshold, meaning raw accuracy may not improve past ~3200 DPI on most sensors.

FAQ

Why does my result differ from my mouse's spec?

Operating system pointer acceleration, scaling settings, or polling rate can affect the result. Disable "Enhance pointer precision" in Windows for best accuracy.

How accurate is this test?

Accuracy depends on how precisely you move the mouse the target distance. Using a longer distance (e.g. 20 cm) reduces the margin of error. Repeat the test 2–3 times and average the results.

What is a good DPI for gaming?

Most competitive FPS players use 400–800 DPI with a low in-game sensitivity. MOBA and RTS players often prefer 1000–1600 DPI. There's no universal "best" — it depends on your playstyle and mouse pad size.
